WHY SKILLS4CITIES
SKILLS FOR SMART CITIES
The focus of the project is human resources that work in the administration of smart cities and more precisely the competencies that they have to possess. The
working definition of a "competence for smart city" used in the project is - a specific, identifiable, definable, and measurable knowledge, skill, ability and/or another deployment-related characteristic which the human resource in the city government or related public institutions or organizations may possess and which is necessary for, or material to, the performance of activities within a smart city context. |
URBAN AREAS
Today, 55% of the world's population lives in urban areas and it is projected that by 2050 this figure will increase by up to 68%. In this context, the
sustainable development of cities is more relevant than ever. The new urban models must be conceived from a more respectful and sensitive perspective with the citizens and the planet. Educating and training under the framework of the smart city concept is needed, in order to provide the staff of cities with a multidisciplinary approach, taking into account the emerging technological tools in the different urban contexts. |
The new types of jobs that concern the smart cities require a new frame of competencies (knowledge, skills, and abilities) that the target groups, defined in this project, can upgrade through a corresponding certified training. Thus, they can meet the newest needs of the cities for more effective generation, management, and implementation of smart city projects.
SKILLS4CITIES OBJECTIVES
The preparation of relevant training & validation environment for the human resource engaged with the smart city administration and management. The project
supports the elaboration of a competence map, referent competence framework, recognition and validation of new curricula and training materials for staff, managers, and experts of smart cities at European level, who are currently recruited or will be engaged to work for the cities after the respective training. Overall, this project supports the learning paths for the newly emerging roles/professions of smart city experts, personnel and managers.
