The Skills4Cities project has already kicked off, an Erasmus+ project which aims to develop and test learning and validation tools for training of experts on smart cities!
On November 13th, 2020 the Smart Skills for Smarter Cities (Skills4Cities) had its kick-off meeting where the 6 partners established the first steps in the new Erasmus+ project
The Skills4Cities project develops and tests learning and validation tools for the training of experts, personnel, and managers of the smart cities for their newly emerging roles. It is aimed at understanding better the challenges the smart city projects bring during their design and implementation and to propose new job roles of the experts involved in this process. The novelty is that the project clarifies the fields of the knowledge, skills, and abilities that are of critical importance for the efficiency of the smart city projects and elaborates a model for upgrading the competencies of main target groups.

Smart Cities Competencies Map
As first task of the project, the smart city competencies map is being developed. The mapping will clarify what are the required competencies of the smart city practitioners who work on developing, advising and managing smart city projects of different kinds and scale.
The structure of the competence map will be based on the Skills4Cities fields of competencies model (for knowledge, skills, and abilities).
This model has been prepared to facilitate the process of elaborating job profiles for target group. It serves to clarify and test the set of competencies that target groups should upgrade through the corresponding certified training in order to respond to smart city needs so that they have more effective development, management, and implementation of smart city projects.
The following four groups (set) of competencies were identified for mapping at the preparation stage that have to be verified in the next level of development:
